Rabindranath Tagore, one of the most famous and popular Bengali poets, writers, composers, philosophers, and painters, was born on 7 May 1861. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, he was the only 0ne person who rebuilt Bengali literature and music and Indian art with Contextual Modernism. For his poetry, he is known as Gurudev, Kobiguru, and Biswakobi worldwide.

The name of Rabindranath Tagore’s father was Debendranath Tagore. He was a leader of the Brahmo Samaj, a new religious sect in nineteenth-century Bengal. Rabindranath Tagore was the only legendary pioneer in our Bengali literature.

His first substantial poems were released at the age of only 16. He produced so many noble works in his lifetime for representing Bengali literature. He died on 7 August 1941.

Rabindranath Tagore Dramas

Jyotirindranath was Tagore’s brother, and Tagore led his brother’s adaptation of Molière’s Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme at only sixteen. Valmiki Pratibha (The Genius of Valmiki) was the first written drama by Tagore. He first wrote this drama at the age of twenty.

There have also so many dramas in his career. These dramas are Nalini, Prakritir Pratisodh, Raja o Rani, Visarjan, Goray Galad, Chitrangada, Malini, Baikunther Khata, Laksmirpariksa, Kahini, Sharadotsab, Mukut, and so on. Short Stories

Tagore’s writing career was started by writing short stories in 1877 at 16. This first short story was “Bhikharini” (“The Beggar Woman”). Mainly Tagore first invented the Bengali-language short story genre with this short story. Generally, Tagore wrote short stories most.

Tagore’s “Sadhana” period was from 1891 to 1895 (Four Years). Tagore’s well-known short stories are Bhikarini, Koruna, Gather Katha, Byabadhan, Khata, Ginni, Khokababur Pratyabartan, Post Master, Denapaona, Taraprasanner Kirti, Ekti Ashare Golpo, Svarnamrig, Sampatti Samarpan, Jibita o Mitra, etc.

Novels of Rabindranath Tagore

In the writing life of Rabindranath Tagore, his novels are the least-acknowledged. Noukadubi was the first novel written by Tagore that was produced in 1906. He didn’t write so many novels in his career. But which novels had he written that got so much popularity.

These novels are Gora in 1910, Chaturanga in 1916, Ghare Baire in 1916, Shesher Kobita in 1929, Jogajog in 1929, and Char Odhyay in 1934. Ghare Baire novel was adapted to a film by Satyajit Ray (Ghare Baire, 1984).

Rabindranath’s Poetry

Poetry is the most successful writing segment of Rabindranath Tagore. Gitanjali is Tagore’s best-known collection of poetry in the international period. Rabindranath Tagore gained the world’s most honorable award, named Noble Prize in 1913 for Gitanjali. He was the first person outside Europe who win the Noble Prize.

Sonar Tori (“Golden Boat”), Balaka (“Wild Geese”), Kabi-Kahini, Bana-Phul, Bhagna Hriday, Sandhya Sangeet, Prabhat Sangeet, Shaishab Sangeet, Chhabi o Gan, Manasi, Chaitali, etc. are also his popular writings.

Songs (Rabindra Sangeet)

Rabindranath Tagore had a prolific voice or tune. In his career, he has 2,230 songs to his credit. Rabindranath Tagore’s songs are called Rabindra Sangeet. This Rabindra Sangeet merges into Bengali literature fluidly. Most of the lyrics of these songs were taken from his poems or parts of novels, stories.

These Rabindra Sngeets have so much fame all over the world. Amar Shonar Bangla is the national anthem of Bangladesh, and this song was taken from Rabindra Sangeet in 1971.
