The story revolves around Red Schuhart, a stalker, one of those strange misfits who are compelled by some unknown force to venture illegally into the Zone and, despite the extreme danger, collect the mysterious artifacts that the alien visitors left scattered around. The neologism “stalker” has become a popular term in the Russian language, according to the authors.
