Serpentine by Philip Pullman is a fantasy novella set after the events of His Dark Materials and before the second book of The Book of Dust series. Originally written in 2004 for a charity auction during the production of His Dark Materials, the novella was publicly released in October 2020. In this story, a teenage Lyra Belacqua and her dæmon Pantalaimon revisit Trollesund, the Arctic town where she first met the aeronaut Lee Scoresby and the armored bear Iorek Byrnison. Seeking answers about their ability to separate, they consult the witch-consul Dr. Lanselius.
