The Last Mrs. Summers By Rhys Bowen

The Last Mrs. Summers, penned by Rhys Bowen, is the fourteenth installment in the Her Royal Spyness series. Set in England between the two World Wars, this delightful mystery follows the escapades of Lady Georgiana Rannoch, who happens to be 34th in line to the throne, and her best friend Belinda. The story unfolds as they become entangled in a small-town mystery that is anything but ordinary.

Lady Georgiana, fresh from her honeymoon with the dashing Darcy O’Mara, finds herself at loose ends. When Belinda inherits an old cottage in Cornwall, she invites Georgiana to inspect the property. Their journey leads them to the creaky old cottage called White Sails, which turns out to be completely uninhabitable. However, fate intervenes when they encounter Rose Summers, a woman Belinda knew from her childhood in Cornwall.

Rose invites them to stay at Trewoma Hall, an estate now owned by her husband, Tony. But Trewoma Hall is far from the idyllic house Belinda remembers. It exudes an eerie, claustrophobic atmosphere, exacerbated by the efficient yet oppressive housekeeper, Mrs. Mannering. To complicate matters further, Tony seems keen on rekindling an old flame with Belinda right under his wife’s nose.
