Unsettled By Reem Faruqi

Unsettled by Reem Faruqi is a middle-grade novel in verse that tells the poignant immigration story of Nurah and her family. Moving from Karachi, Pakistan, to Peachtree City, Georgia, Nurah grapples with standing out for all the wrong reasons—her accent, floral-print kurtas, and tea-colored skin. Under the stairwell, she eats lunch alone until she meets Stahr at swimming tryouts.

Both Nurah and Stahr cover their bodies in the water, but for different reasons. As Nurah sprouts wings in the form of strong swimming arms, she gains the courage to stand up to bullies, fight for her beliefs, and find her place in this new world.
